Today we’d like to introduce you to Mick Moffitt.
Mick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was six years old, my mother died in a house fire. What I remember the most from that night was the firefighters who brought me to a safe place and spent time encouraging me about what was ahead in life from that point forward. Their impression inspired me to become a firefighter when I reached adulthood. Since then, I made a commitment to give back through training and mentoring young cadets in making a difference in their communities. Our training academy began in 2003 and now is the largest of its kind in all north America. We not only train the new recruits on how to put out fire and stay safe in the process, but how to lead by example and be men and women of strong character. Our students come from Canada, Ireland, Columbia, Guam, Japan, Middle East and many other parts of the world. This link is a short bio on how this all began. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzxml3shzpy
Has it been a smooth road?
Lots of struggles. We designed an online/onsite blended fire academy to help the guys and girls that already have responsibilities including full time jobs, but have a passionate dream about becoming a firefighter. This was not well received at all in such a traditional industry. However, it is much easier to build the skill set of an individual rather than the character traits and passion to save lives. Our school attracts those type of individuals. Our school allows them to take the didactic portion on line then attend a 2 week intensive boot camp at our facility where we teach fire service culture and station life as well as skill set.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Trainingdivision.Com story. Tell us more about the business.
Fire and ems academy. What sets us apart is our method of teaching and housing students to give them a look at “behind the scenes” before they commit to the industry.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our method was scrutinized for over a decade. But now the entire industry is moving in the direction of online blended or hybrid programs.
