Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Cassell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Monica. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I first began photography in elementary school when I signed up for an after-school class to learn the basics of photography. From then on, it really became a passion of mine. I always had a camera on me, and capture everything from landscapes to what my friends and I were up to. I still have boxes and boxes of photos in storage from my childhood.
After I graduated high school, I took a break from photography since I didn’t have a lot of time between classes and working full time. About five years ago, I decided to pick it back up. I went and purchased my first DSLR, and couldn’t put it down. As time went on, I shifted my focus from landscape and wildlife to portraits and started practicing on friends and family.
In 2017, I got married. Finding a photographer that I clicked with and was comfortable with capturing my day was proving to be difficult, but I eventually found her. She then took me under her wing and introduced me to wedding photography. That’s when I realized I found my niche. I’ve since been building and my business and focusing on couples and weddings.
There’s just something about capturing raw love and emotion between two people that feeds my creativity.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been a difficult journey. Making the transition into portraits and weddings was a huge learning curve. As an introvert, building a clientele and stepping out of my comfort zone was the biggest challenge, but it also made it easy for me to observe and tell someone’s story through photographs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Monica Cassell Photography specializes in couples and wedding photography. I’m known for making the entire process simple and fun. I get to know my couples and what makes them unique, and I use that to capture their true selves in their photos.
My clients aren’t just clients, they become friends, and that’s what makes them most comfortable in front of the camera. I’m extremely proud of how far the business has come since the beginning.
When I first started, I never imagined that I would get to a point where people with trust me with capturing one of the most important days of their life, and that’s such a humbling experience for me.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
DFW is a great place to start a photography business. There are so many different locations to photograph, and such a wide array of people. Being in such a diverse city keeps the creative mind flowing with new ideas.
