Meet Monique Layzell of Monique Layzell Art Prints

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Layzell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Monique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a kid I’ve always had a passion for photography and art, which led me to go to England where I went to college for Fashion Design. After which I returned to Texas. I soon went back where I married my now ex-husband, after going years of domestic abuse. After divorcing him I moved back to Dallas with my daughter for safety and a better life for my daughter and I.

While I was living here I was only doing art as a hobby, and someone looked at my art and told me to put it out there, so I did. I consider myself a Photographic Artist, and I also do photo retouching. All self-taught. And while doing this I use my blogs and Facebook page to speak out about domestic abuse to help other women.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Arriving back from the UK as a single mother, starting everything anew has been a challenge. But I have to move forward, not for me but for my daughter. And I have had a tumor removed in the past. But all is well. I do not let it affect my work in any way. Despite all of these obstacles, I strive to be a role model for my daughter.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Monique Layzell Art Prints story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Photographic Artist. I do photo retouching and paintings, creating what I see is unique art with my own style. I am proud of working independently. I am also proud when I do photo retouching for people who have lost a loved one, seeing their reactions when I show them the finished product and bringing the one they have lost back to life.

What I see that sets my business apart from the others is when, if allowed, to make my client’s photos into art, with different colors, scenery, etc. It brings me joy to do that.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck has been on my side, allowing me to create and run this business so I can create what I love.
