Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Taylor.
Reggie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Tyler, TX and in high school, I formed a rap group named B.C. Style and we were the opening act for several major artists. My mother was instrumental in my foundation in entertainment. She gave me her credit card and told me to go to the book store and buy every book I could on the music and entertainment industry. At 18, I started an independent record label and I knew as much about the entertainment industry as any major label music executive. After frustrations with the business side of the music industry, I entered the US Air Force in 1994. In 2000, I went to my first comedy show to see Arnez J perform live. I was blown away to see over 2000 people laughing and having such a great time. I should have been enjoying the show, but I was admiring the promoter who put the show together. I said at that moment, one day when the timing was right, I would host & promote comedy shows. I had a formal business plan prepared for almost 20 years awaiting the ideal time to start our business. I worked in retail sales and marketing during those 20 years and I worked my way up into what I thought was my dream position as a Regional Manager; in a sense, I got comfortable. Since I was the top performer in the company, my workload was twice what everyone else was. I was working so much it was affecting my health and the company wouldn’t reduce my workload so I accepted a voluntary layoff. I told my wife Daina, I could no longer make others wealthy and that it was time to start our own business. She had to really pray about it when I asked for her retirement savings, lol. But with extreme faith, we used our life’s savings and Stars Entertainment Group, LLC was founded with the goals of generational wealth for my family, providing jobs in my community and giving back to those in need.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has and hasn’t been a smooth road; what I mean is that I was prepared by having a business plan prepared for years before we started our company. However, there’s always the unexpected when you start any business. But I constantly lean on three things that have allowed me to handle every obstacle that has been set before me. Number one and most importantly is God, if you ask for wisdom, He will give it to you generously. Number two is my work ethic, my father raised me that no matter what I do in life to never let anyone work harder than me. Lastly is my wife and my brother Frank; their support and belief in me strengthen me in times of adversity that I can accomplish anything.
Please tell us about Stars Entertainment Group – what should we know?
We’re an entertainment company formed to serve three purposes. To host & promote comedy shows with the hottest comedians and up and coming comedians, to be booking agents that represent comedians known and not yet known and to assist anyone seeking comedic talents for their next event. Additionally, our future plans provide a platform for amateur comedians to display their talents for the world to see. We aim to be innovators in the comedy industry and to knock down barriers that prevent comedians from being discovered and from taking their careers to the highest levels. What separates us from other companies is that we truly have a love for people and helping others to achieve their dreams.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife and business partner Daina and my brother Frank Taylor deserves a world of credit. They believed in my dream by investing in my company financially and constantly pouring into me emotionally and spiritually.
