Meet Shannon Keys of Resilient Fitness in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Keys.

Shannon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been athletic and active. I’m also from New Orleans. With that being said, I endured the emotional repercussions of Hurricane Katrina. From there, I gained a dysfunctional relationship with food. I was an emotional eater. I think at my highest. I was 274. I would get down in the 220s, but never past that. I would fall off one day, feel guilty about it and start stress-eating. It was a constant cycle. Do all this hard work only to start over. I was consistent at being inconsistent. I knew what to do to get me where I wanted to be physically and dietary wise, but the most important factor was missing.

Fast forward to November 2018. I was tired of starting over. I said that I was going to get under 200 pounds and was not turning back. I only drank water, made myself a meal plan that I stuck to, along with workouts I put together for myself. If someone questioned what I was doing or why I’m not drinking or eating sweets, I just told them that I’d got goals that I am attaining. Now, if there was a time that I ‘fell off’, I didn’t beat myself up as I did in the past. I just kept going, as I knew that I was getting closer to my goal regardless and I refused to let one instance take away all the hard work that I have put in for months. I changed my thinking and it truly changed my life!!!!!! Any goal is attainable but you have to believe that you are capable, able and worthy of achieving it. Don’t let another day go by thinking that you can’t be or do anything you aspire to. Know your worth!!! It may have taken me almost 14 years to get it right, but I did it.

In the midst of one of my many times of starting over, I got my Fitness and Life Coach certification. I feel like the mental and physical aspects go hand in hand. Now I continue to help others reach their goals as I continue to reach mine. I am doing what I love, which is helping others, showing them what they are capable of, and having fun while doing it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some potholes, roadblocks and more on my journey. The thing I had to realize is that they are only temporary, but are part of the process. The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome is fear. Fear of failure. Fear of succeeding. Fear of the unknown, and so on. Once I truly believed that I am capable, able and worthy of greatness, the fear dissolved.
