Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Nichols and Dee Hurd.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We met each other sophomore year of high school and built a bond that has kept us thick as thieves throughout the years. Our personalities are so vibrant together that when people meet us or they hear our playful banter they are drawn in and want to be an included in the fun that we are having. Seeing the joy that we bring people just by being ourselves naturally sparked a flame to take that same energy and place it on a platform to share with the world, thus birthing The Teapot Podcast.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running a business with your best friend is quite the task that we are still learning and growing from. We face challenges every day focusing on our personal lives separately while maintaining full-time jobs; trying to push out content on a timely basis. Although we are learning on compromise and figure out how to manage our business relationship from our personal, nothing has been harder than the jump start of the podcast and officially stepping into the mindset of being creatives. In the beginning, we were always saying “one day, one day” and pushing the procrastination bus down the road, but after several life changes, we came to the realization that there was never going to be a “perfect” time to start. Posting our first show was such a liberating experience and the reactions to it gave us the confidence to keep working.
The Teapot Podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our show is pure entertainment and comedy as told by two friends behind the eyes of how we view the world based on our experiences, our culture, and community. We are like a Long Island Ice Tea, we take trending stories in pop culture, hot button issues in the news, and blend them with some colorful commentary, then pour over ice. Our show is an invitation to our listeners to savor self-reflection while being unapologetically themselves and cherish the moment in laughter. As we enter season 2, the support and positive feedback from our listeners have to be what we are proud of the most. We are proud to have an outlet and space to share our voices with the world as we are millennials creating our own path and a future generation. We started the show with the intent of spreading laughter and to have people enjoying that is amazing. Aside from the show, Dee is aspiring to further her career in the world of fashion, hopefully, to become her own entrepreneur in the fashion industry. Shaun is an ambitious actor and comedian exploring his creativity on Instagram with the determination of being in television and film.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for us is defined by being passionate about our art and creativity. Although it is not monetary, the fulfillment you get by putting your voice out to the world, being relatable, and uplifting the community is what we pride ourselves on and that is something that cannot be bought. As we continue that success, we would like to further establish our brand, grow our audience, and we look forward to partnerships and collaborations with other successful creatives that reflect who we are as The Teapot Podcast.
