Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Rose.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been doing art as long as I can remember. Around the age of 13, I started to gravitate towards the art of tattooing as a profession. The laws in Oklahoma, paired with the atmosphere of the tattoo shops I applied to, motivated me to move to Dallas to pursue my career in tattooing. I put together a portfolio of finished art pieces and started looking for an apprenticeship in Dallas at the age of 19. In 2013, I caught a break and got my foot in the door. Since then, I have tattooed in Waikiki Hawaii, Salt Lake City Utah, and Dallas, Texas.
Please tell us about your art.
I primarily focus on realism, but in the last couple of years have developed an affinity for doing watercolor inspired style art. I practice a variety of mediums; watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint, as well as charcoal and pencils. I also cooperate with a jewelry business with my mother, Soul Vibration Art. With that, we make one of a kind pendants using crystals electroplated with copper. I have also embellished several animal skulls with copper and crystals. Of all the mediums, tattooing will always be near and dear to my heart for all of the opportunities it provides me.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
In my personal opinion, it’s probably just staying motivated through the learning phase where our skills aren’t on the same level as our vision.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
