Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Malcolmson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My first volunteer experience as a little girl was accompanying my grandmother to a nursing home and handing out chocolate bars and bananas to the residents. The experience really made an impact on me, and it felt very rewarding to spend time with the older adults at the facility.
Fast forward many years when I started my career in the corporate world and transferred skills and experiences I developed along the way to several non-profits, including Southern Methodist University, United Way, and Dallas Habitat for Humanity. I honed my fundraising and leadership skills at these organizations and now am applying those best practices to achieve the mission of The Senior Source.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
All careers have fits and starts, and mine is no different. What I have learned is that culture and passion are so important to me and when those are in sync, I have been successful. And it’s not whether the culture is good or bad; it’s a matter of fit. Do I fit into the culture of the organization?
Secondly, I have to have a passion for the mission. Fundraising for an organization is hard enough, and if my eyes don’t light up when I talk about the mission, others can quickly see that.
The Senior Source – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Senior Source has been the go-to resource for all aging-related needs in Dallas since 1961. Our non-profit helps seniors and their families navigate any and all aspects of aging. Whether an individual is looking for volunteer opportunities to give back to the community after retirement or is in need of protection from frauds and scams targeting seniors, we are here to help. The Senior Source has programs to assist, protect, and connect older adults.
We help older adults who need help managing their finances and provide guardianship services. We act as the county’s long-term care ombudsmen making regular, unannounced visits to nursing homes and assisted living centers to ensure quality care is provided to the seniors who reside in these facilities. We help the adult children who find themselves in the unfamiliar position of caring for an aging parent.
Words can’t express how proud I am of all of our dedicated, compassionate staff. They go above and beyond each day to provide services and support for seniors and their families with the utmost respect and care. As a non-profit agency, all of our services are of no cost to our older adult clients and their families.
