Meet Suzanne Pritchett of Dutch and Boots in Central Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Pritchett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Suzanne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I can vividly remember so many times out with my little one where her drool bib would be immaculate one moment and filthy the next. Between drool, spit-up, and food, she could really do a number on her bib. Too often, I wouldn’t have an extra bib in the diaper bag when I really needed it, and I wouldn’t want to flip it around to the terry/fleece backside. Even if the back were a cotton fabric, it wouldn’t make sense to put the dirty side against my baby.

So, that sent me searching for a baby bib that wasn’t just cute and stylish, but also practical and functional. One that I could use longer while I was at home and out & about with my baby. One that could make things even just a little bit easier. And when I found that it didn’t exist, I decided to create it myself. Many, many prototypes later, I had it: a truly reversible bandana bib. With four usable sides and a clever flipping design, I finally had the bib I always wanted. And it was a huge help for me, so I wanted to share that with other moms who were perhaps looking for the same things I had needed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting Dutch and Boots has been such an adventure!

For the past 10 years, I have been working as a diabetes educator – I am actually still working as a diabetes educator today. So, switching gears a bit in creating a product and building a brand and a business in such a different industry has been an amazing learning experience. Learning what it takes to work with manufacturers to get the product just right, learning the intricacies of the e-commerce world, and learning how to explain what sets this bib apart from the rest. And I am still learning every day.

Above all else though, the biggest struggle I have had is balancing my time between being the best mom I can be, the best diabetes educator I can be, and the best business owner I can be. Luckily, I have an amazing support system of family, friends, and customers who have continued to support me through it all.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dutch and Boots – what should we know?
Dutch and Boots is a baby accessory brand committed to making our lives as parents just a little bit easier – starting with the drool bib.

As a fellow mom with a passion for fashion and function, I created a truly reversible baby bandana bib that uses an original four-sided design to flip and contain any drool, spit-up, or mess to keep the party going longer without having to pack multiple bibs in the diaper bag.

I was excited about this bib from the first time I imagined it, but the real joy has come from hearing how much other moms have appreciated it as well. Moms deserve all the help they can get, so knowing I’ve played some small part in making their days even just a little bit easier energizes me to keep getting the word out, however I can.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As both a small business owner and a mother, I think it is important to be present in the moment. It’s so easy to feel stretched between those two roles – feeling like you’re neglecting one responsibility when you’re focused on the other – but for me, being present in each moment has made it easier.
