Meet Trailblazer Belinda Santos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Santos.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Belinda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my ballet training at the age of 10 under the direction of Deborah Case in McAllen, TX. I was fortunate to study with amazing guest artists such as: Galina Mezentseva of the Kirov Ballet and Willy Shives of the Joffrey Ballet. In 2007, I earned my BA in Psychology and Art with a minor in Dance. I started working at small studios and immersed myself in teaching, choreographing, and performing when I had the opportunity.

In 2012, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Dance from Texas Woman’s University. During this time, I met my good friend and colleague Holly Seeley who was then the owner of Preston Hollow Dance. I started working for her upon graduation, teaching 15+ classes a week and learning the business side of things. Shortly thereafter, I became the Assistant Director and that’s when the ball really started rolling. It was hard work and a lot of late nights but worth every minute. Five years later, Holly sold the business over to me and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a business owner is hard! Not gonna lie.

You have to balance your time wisely and be extremely organized – both things I struggle with. However, you make mistakes and figure it out along the way. Building a trustworthy and professional team to help you stay focused and motivated is key. I’m currently running the business on my own without an assistant director or manager but I’m thinking about getting one soon!

This isn’t a typical 9-5 gig. I’ll start my day at 9:00 a.m. and sometimes won’t get finished until 8:30 p.m. The biggest struggle is not spending enough time at home and seeing my family. I’ve started making a goal to drop everything by 7:00 p.m. and devote more time with loved ones… they are my biggest support system.

We’d love to hear more about Preston Hollow Dance.

What beautiful story! My daughter too has been doing ballet at Deborah Case dance academy since she was 4 and she absolutely loves everything about it. Since she learned to start walking she would tap her feet to the music and twirl. Your story of accomplishments are truly inspirational. Thank you Voyage Dallas for sharing this beautiful story.
