Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittaney Cook.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Athletic Outcomes developed after my husband and I decided to pack up our lives and move south to Austin, where it was much warmer and a great spot for a new business. I owned a chiropractic practice in a gym in Chicago and my husband was a second grade school teacher who taught group fitness classes for fun. So, naturally, we somehow decided we were quite capable of opening up a performance facility in a city we knew two people in. Surprisingly, it worked. My story is full of amazing support from my husband, taking risks probably too frequently, and being a big time nerd behind the scenes.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth would definitely not be one of the first words I would use to describe this journey. There were moments of “Oh shit, I only have $17 in my bank account to last me 2 weeks” and “We don’t know anyone in this city, but if you build it they will come, right?!”. The one consistent thing throughout my journey was ignorance. Looking back I truly believe ignorance is bliss. Knowing nothing about business, carrying around a degree expecting people to fall over at the depth of my resume, and never asking for help – I can’t believe I’ve been led to where I am today. I do feel however that I’ve always been so determined to build a certain community, which made me relentless throughout every process. I never once felt like I was chancing failure and always believed I was capable. Seeing myself as a young woman I would give myself a high-five at how brave and humble I was. For women of every age wanting to do something big, I’d suggest don’t be afraid, because you may know less than everyone else, but no one knows your ability to drive, and that’s attractive.
We’d love to hear more about Athletic Outcomes.
My husband and I own a fitness and wellness facility in Austin, Texas called Athletic Outcomes. Technically, I’m a chiropractor with masters degrees in both sports rehabilitation and nutrition. So, throughout the day you may see me coaching clients through post surgery or postnatal, I may be face timing a nutrition client, coaching one of our functional fitness group classes, or typing away at my computer managing our business. What’s amazing about my role is that it keeps me on my toes because of how versatile one day’s schedule can be. I love business development, geeking out about meal plans, and watching people move. I’m so proud to be an owner of Athletic Outcomes because we are different from the rest. We thrive to become a one-stop shop for our members providing functional fitness, modern recovery, and a social community that’s fun, professional, and welcoming.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
There are so many! Not only do I want to become a stronger business owner, I also want to learn everything about managing relationships, movement of the human body, the chemistry of food, and most importantly how to be an amazing mother! To name a few, in no particular order: Exos, Mike Boyle, Plant Lab, The Rich Roll Podcast, The Calm App (so I can chill out and fall asleep), How Not To Die, The Office reruns, and any parenting book I can get my hands on. 😉
