Meet Trailblazer Gbeke Omosebi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gbeke Omosebi.

Gbeke, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a young girl, I have always had a creative interest. I loved painting, baking and building things. I took photography classes but never expected that later in life I’d be photographing and sharing my home spaces. My passion for home designs all started when my husband and I started building our first home in the DFW metroplex. The building process was stressful but as I studied more about home design, I fell in love with it. After our house was completed, I challenged myself to take on DIY home projects to transform our house under a limited budget. This involved watching lots of YouTube videos. I have completed many DIY projects in our home and I am still amazed by how it turned out.

Growth in the home design niche takes some time. It involves a lot of research, experience and passion to be creative and also learn from others. Having a network of individuals with the same expertise and in the same field is one of the keys to growth. At first, it was difficult to share with the world my style and ideas but looking back, the challenges I have faced only molded me to understand my home style and define my brand to my audience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh no! I am currently still facing challenges as I continue to grow my brand and business. However, I cannot give up because there will always be challenges as we grow. This is part of the process of success. Some of my struggles include not setting realistic visions and goals, not building exposure and having the resources to take my brand to the next level.

In addition, I am a full-time working mom and there are times when I cannot spend the time I want on my business or it has to be put on hold for a while due to personal reasons. As a young woman, working mom and wife, I will advise that you set realistic goals as you start a business. Do not allow comparison to discourage you. Others businesses that are successful were once at the same level as you. I know it is difficult to avoid comparison, I am guilting of it but focusing on your goals and vision is important.

Please tell us about Simplicity For Designs – what should we know?
I’m a home design and DIY blogger at, a home design blog featuring projects from home decor to home improvement. I love to inspire and encourage others to transform their house into a home while expressing their personality. On the blog and on my Instagram, I share DIY home projects I take on in our home and home design inspirations, tips, and tricks.

Along with DIY home projects, I provide e-design services to others. This includes creating design boards for clients’ home spaces and sourcing furniture and home decor pieces for clients to purchase at their own time. I’m also a full-time working mom as an application developer in the healthcare industry, building and integrating systems.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking helps with exposure for your brand and for your business. I’ll advise people to attend at least one major networking conference in their area of expertise every year and also attend local networking events.
