Meet Trailblazer Jana Moon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Moon LMT, CST

Jana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been interested in wellness since childhood. While still in primary school, a kind and wise chiropractor began to nurture that interest by teaching me about the structure and function of the body, and the art of being present with people. And growing up in the country, I felt an intuitive connection to all living things and an easy, natural understanding of the emotional body as it relates to the physical body.

In 1996, after college and an early career in publishing, I completed Massage Therapy training and fell in love with the innate wisdom of the body and with CranioSacral Therapy. I became Techniques Certified in CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute. I am a Teaching Assistant for Upledger and continue my education in this powerful, gentle, respectful and deeply effective therapy. Along the way, I’ve developed skills in a variety of energy techniques and today, in addition to my CST practice, I focus on Reiki and teaching Reiki. I also host other community workshops to help sensitive people manage their energy by learning to live a more grounded and embodied experience.

I have been in practice since 1996 and in Grapevine since 2004.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an interesting journey. Along with developing the skills of a practitioner, one must hone boundaries and business acumen. I filled my practice initially with a print advertisement. After 5 years, that was saturated and print ads were quickly losing ground to online. I’ve since learned about websites and social media. My best advice is to define your values and find people to learn from and/or hire who share those values. And more important is defining the purpose of your work and making sure that everything goes toward that so that you don’t get distracted by other ideas that while good or interesting don’t ultimately serve the reason for your business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Moon Healing Arts – what should we know?
I specialize in CranioSacral Therapy, a light touch approach to therapeutic bodywork that can create dramatic improvements in your life.

By gently placing my hands on the client’s body, engaging the tissue and following as changes in the client’s body occur, CST helps to improve whole-body health and performance. And since the work is based upon what the client’s body is doing rather than the therapist making the decision to move a person’s body in any given direction, this modality respects the process that the client needs. This is the principal difference between CST and most other therapeutic types of bodywork.

CranioSacral Therapy can include the release of emotional issues, as those can be very much a part of the disturbance in the body. I am trained to support the somato-emotional release process. Emotional release will arise as needed naturally. It is supported in a non-invasive and respectful way. Your body knows all that is needed to find and release emotional pain and calm the spirit and it will function better without holding all of those stories.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Female leadership is very present in my industry. There are many great female researchers and teachers who are significantly influencing this generation of healing arts practitioners. I think the world, even though it has problems, is improving in so many ways. Simple acts of kindness and respect create more bridges to understanding and growth in leadership roles and everywhere.

I am happy to say I’ve had a few sessions with Jana Moon. I felt peaceful during the sessions and had symptoms go away for weeks after.
