Meet Trailblazer Jessica Bryant

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Bryant.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a little girl, I have spent my time with young children.  I started picking up babysitting jobs when I was 11 years old.  Marketing myself by playing with children at my neighborhood pool kept me booked out for years.  I continued on this path as a nanny through college where I spent time testing the theories I was learning in the classroom on the little ones I kept.  Sleep coaching didn’t come into the picture until I had my first child and I had my own child to test out theories on.

As a new mommy, I was struggling. Our schedule was completely off and when I shared my struggles with my then 5-month old with my neighborhood mom friends they said something strange… You know your baby can sleep 7pm to 7am.

No! I had no idea, but you better believe I am off to study this strange idea and test it out on my daughter.  Keep in mind this was 2003 and Google was not available. Sure enough, I borrowed the book and dived into my child’s cues and feeding schedules and three days later she was putting herself to sleep earlier at 7pm in her crib and sleeping soundly all night long. I was a new woman.

And word got out!  Especially after I gave birth to twins 3 years later and had not one BUT three well rested children.  My party trick was putting the babies and toddlers to sleep for their parents.  And I LOVED IT! I would even invite them over so I could put them to sleep at my house while my daughter was napping. Then friends of friends started asking me for help with their bedtime routines and then sending me gift cards to thank me for their help.

In 2015, I decided to turn my hobby into Sleep Happy Consulting.  I was on a mission to build back sleep deprived parents’ confidence and equip them with the tools to create the sleep routines of their dreams.  I built my business around real time text support in order to encourage parents in the moment and help them stay consistent with the plan we created together.  Sleep Happy to date has supported over 500 families throughout the country and beyond. Our mission is to equip parents with the knowledge and tools to create #happysleepersforlife!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?|
While sitting on floors with moms and babies and working to build sleep plans has always come easy for me, managing the back office has been a constant learning curve for me.  I always encourage new entrepreneurs who reach out to me to hear about my journey, to embrace the constant learning curve of owning your own business.  Find the experts to support you while you focus on your gifts, don’t wait until you feel like you know it all!

Please tell us about Sleep Happy Consulting – what should we know?
Sleep Happy Consulting’s goal is to build up parents and improve the sleep routines of the whole family.  A parent telling me that after a long day at the office their best time of day is spending a happy time together winding down and watching their child move confidently through the bedtime routine I helped them created.  And then having their child waking up happily and tackle the day because they have created #happysleepers.

I offer a range of support packages because every baby and every family is different.  Parents can access a 1-hour expert call or 10-day real-time text support packages depending on the level of support they are looking for.

It is an honor to be trusted by another woman on what has been described as an emotional, stressful, and overwhelming process.  And then to be able to show her how empowering and loving it can be to see your child blossom and discover their own skills for calming their body for sleep, whether they are six months or three years old!

Sleep is a basic need for all humans and when young children and adults are not getting the sleep they it impacts all facets of their life. Today parents are bombarded with information on sleep and so many mixed messages. It is my job to help parents sort through the information, consider their own child’s development, family goals, and help them create a practical plan to implement.

What sets me apart from others is the my real-time text support, my expertise in the sensory needs of young children that impact their ability to calm their own bodies for sleep, and my whole child approach that combines to create sleep success!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I feel the opportunities for women today are limitless! One area I feel there is a huge opportunity for women entrepreneurs is the field of maternal mental health.
