Meet Twyla Marks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Twyla Marks.

Twyla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a single mother of two adult kids, Brittany (26) and Kyle (21) they are amazing kids! I’m a Christian woman I was raised by a strong woman my grandmother whom I call Ma! I’m the oldest grandchild and she taught me to NEVER give up and regardless of how tough times become to keep fighting and going thru it – why? I endured lots of hardships throughout my life but I held onto her token phrase “we can only see to the corner but God can see around the corner” this phrase was embedded within my mind because throughout life little did I know it would hold true throughout my adulthood. Ma holds a special place in my heart because she raised me and without telling the story of my book which when you read the book you will find out about the love that I have for Ma!!!Well she taught me to always do things with excellence and I always DO to this day!

I started writing in 2005, I always had a desire to write a book. However I didn’t know what I was ready to say let alone write about – my book is about my life journey and I compare my life to a theme park rollercoaster so get in the car with me and let’s experience the uphill journey, the negative Gs the corkscrews and dips and finally the straightaway – Are you ready?

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? Not a smooth road at all. My journey started out very rocky there were unknowns throughout my life. I always felt I was abandoned by my mom and father. Well that wasn’t the truth but I wasn’t aware of this until I was an adult. My Ma is my everything and she is the reason I am who I am to this very day! 1 thing about Ma she always told me the truth and didn’t bite her tongue she raised me in church and it was that spiritual foundation that has allowed me to be the woman I am today!

I was a single parent I had my daughter at 21 years old and she changed the trajectory of my life she allowed me to really focus on what was important and allowed me to grow up into motherhood! When she was four years old, I met a man whom I thought would be til death due is part-but wow!!! As a single parent it was challenging, but thru it all my dream came true and I released my book in December 2019 which it’s about my life’s journey!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on? I enjoy being a mother to two strong kids! My daughter broke the generational curse by being the 1st to graduate from college straight out of high school this is a significant part of my life because I’m the oldest grandchild and she’s the oldest great grandchild and she finished college I didn’t finish! My proudest moment was my Book Release Signing Party!!! I’m very proud of my kids and very proud of accomplishments of being an author.

Currently I have launched a podcast called Talks With Twyla! It consists of me talking to various guests on the show that have been impacted by covid19. Prior to covid19 I was going to launch this podcast but it was going to be about relationships, forgiveness dating etc. all components that I wrote about in my book but right now people need encouragement based on what we’re experiencing in the world right now! Tune into Talks with Twyla on Anchor, Spotify, Apple podcast or your favorite podcast platform and listen to the stories of my guests! My podcast relationship series will begin in July.
