Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Bane.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Victoria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making costumes way back in 2002, with wig styling being one of my specialties. As time went on, I started doing some small commissions for a few friends. From there, with the support of my teammates from Cosmic Coterie, I branched out into offering full commissions as well as custom dyeing services.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The hardest thing to overcome was my own uncertainty of moving part of my hobby into more of a job. There was a lot to consider in terms of how many I could manage to do with the constraints of my day job, how competitive the market was, and being a lesser-known player in the field. But at this point, I’ve been able to turn what was essentially my side hustle into my full-time job.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I do primarily character wig styles, from anime and cartoons, but I can also do wigs for streetwear or high fashion. I take a lot of pride in creating accurate interpretations of each character while also providing my clients with any specifications they may have. For my dyeing services, I will mix several formulas for my clients to choose from to make sure that they get the perfect color.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
If it weren’t for my Cosmic Coterie teammates giving me the final push I may not have moved forward with taking commissions and monetizing a large part of my hobby.
