Meet XL Santana of Wave Control Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to XL Santana.

XL, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m an immigrant, I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. I moved to the States about six years ago. I moved to Dallas Texas in search for a better life, new opportunities, and a place where I can have the space to grow myself and be successful. Where I’m from there is a lot of hardships, violence, street gangs. drug cartels, and corruption, so coming from that environment I believe helped me have a good perspective of life, it helped me appreciate every opportunity I encounter, as well as made me grateful to even be able to wake up every day.

People, where I’m from, can only dream of the journey I have been in, I moved as a late teen with no idea about American culture, history, laws, much less speaking English. In a matter of five years, I was able to adapt, learn the language, the culture, become a part of HipHop as well as embrace urban culture which was the culture that received me, accepted me and made me the person I am today. I want to be able to inspire anybody and everybody, and help spread the message that anything can be accomplished if you put your mind to it, its all about your dedication. I want to inspire the world the way the world inspired me. I am a young entrepreneur, as well as a professional producer and engineer, and up and coming artist. six years ago I was a young teen, living in the slums of Mexico, fearing if I would even be able to make pass 25 years old. Today I work hard to make sure I inspire people all over the world so that my spirit may live forever.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been a lot of struggles. When I first moved to the states, me and my family didn’t have much, I still remember the days when I would get excited when I had just bought an inflatable bed because I had been sleeping on the floor for so long. to even receive a bed, from one of my father’s co-workers, he had gifted us from the kindness of his heart.

It was a single bed, and it was the first bed I had ever slept on for two years in living in America. I still have that bed till this day to remind myself where I come from, and most importantly where I am going. Learning English I consider one of my biggest accomplishments in life. I came to the states with very little knowledge of it. I could only understand so much from the hip hop me and my brother use to listen to back in Mexico. As small as it might seem, that little English I knew was just what I needed to give me the push and the determination to learn it and speak it. 6 years later I’m making music purely in English.

Please tell us more about your work.
I am a recording producer/engineer/ artist. I work at a Studio called “Wave Control” located in 200 W Malloy Bridge Rd, Seagoville, TX 75159.

I am proud of my team because I can honestly say we have the most talented production team in the Dallas area, maybe even Texas, once the world gets to listen to our art. We have a very diverse group of producers and engineers such as juksauc3, B.O.C, Lyvonte Davis, KC, Young Pharaoh, Red Rose to name a few. We cover any genre from HipHop all the way Reggaeton, Afrobeat, Rnb, Pop, etc. We consider ourselves musicians, and we have the dedication and passion to go after any genre and style we can reach, Myself included of course.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is when I first sat down in front of a drum set. I truly believe that moment marked and changed my life forever.
