Meet Zandra Bailey of Boulevard Events in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zandra Bailey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Oh wow, where do I start? Initially, I wanted to start my own Wedding & Event planning business because of my personal experience planning my own wedding eight years ago. More recently, I decided to take the deep dive after receiving notification from my corporate career that our jobs were being eliminated. That moment gave me the courage to sit down and get real with myself about which direction I wanted my life and career to head. I didn’t like the feeling I felt when I got that notification but at the same time, I felt that was the best decision ever because I was getting the opportunity to create my own story.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggle is REAL along with the tears and sweat! Most of my struggles have been personal struggles. Struggles of defining who I am as a woman, business owner, leader, creative. For example, granting myself permission to operate within my own creativity and creating my own lane. At the beginning of my journey, I thought I had to do things the same way others in the field did them. I thought I had to follow a specific path. It’s so true when they say “experience is your best teacher”. I learned; still learning that it’s okay to be myself all the way and that it’s okay to create my own path.

Although it’s good to get information from others on what’s working and what’s not working for them you have to keep in the back of your mind that may not be the case for you.

I studied how to network my way and to teach others how to network with me. Personally, I wanted to stay true to the art of networking which is actually getting to know someone else rather than just passing out business cards. I’m learning that relationship building is so important as a small business owner. It can help you thrive.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like the most are the opportunities seem endless. There’s so much room for growth and expansion but I do feel we need more diversity across the board. I want to help be the driving force for change in our city. I feel it’s important to showcase representation to encourage future creatives to feel they have a chance in entrepreneurship.
