Today we’d like to introduce you to Zarinah Curry, Nick Curry.
Zarinah, Nick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Nick and I met in college, and we’ve been together ever since. We have worked in the corporate world for most of our adult lives. With our corporate jobs, we relocated between Texas(3x), Florida and Arizona(2x), but ultimately decided to make the DFW area our home. We have three children and all three were born in the different states we lived in. Our oldest son was born in Texas, our daughter (Florida), and our youngest son (Arizona). In parallel to our careers, we have been investing in real estate since 2007. We started flipping and renovating homes and managing rental properties which evolved to our homebuilding business.
We are so excited about our current project where we are developing land in West Dallas, in the midst of a new development market along Singleton Boulevard, west of downtown Dallas. The opportunity that we are currently developing is, specifically for the benefit of low and moderate-income persons, as determined by the City of Dallas (Dallas Housing and Acquisition Development Corporation (DHADC) and Urban Land Bank Demonstration Program); meaning households with a gross income of not greater than 115% of the Area Median Family Income (AMFI). These two-story, affordable homes are set to be completed by Q4, 2020.
We love building homes, especially when we have an opportunity to improve and add value to a community. Our last project did just that. We developed land in the Marshall Creek corridor, which is nestled in a pocket of Roanoke, Texas. Historically, this community consisted of trailer homes on each lot, with less than 200 total homes. Today, The City of Roanoke ordinance now requires future development of vacant lots and condemned trailers to only be replaced with single-family homes (with the exception of a few HUD sites). This allows for the reshaping of the community with new builds. We took the opportunity to invest into this community.
