Rising Stars: Meet Cristian Berumen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristian Berumen.

Hi Cristian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started in May 2020, it was my senior year of high school but due to COVID everything was online, which meant I was always at home and at work doing nothing. I would scroll through TikTok for hours and would see videos of people making custom clothing on their own, I looked more into the machine and decided to use almost all the money I had to buy the machine and supplies. In the beginning, I just thought about this as a “side thing”, some extra money for college, and something to entertain myself during the pandemic. By November, I was overwhelmed with orders, my job at boost mobile, and my college work. I would get home from work and work on orders for hours with little to no sleep, I made the risky decision to quit my job in order to focus on my business and school full time. I can honestly say that that was the best decision I’ve made. To this day, I break-a record for sales each month which just goes to show how much my business is growing. In July 2021, I opened my store (that is based in my garage/office) so people could come in, get a decal made on the spot and a hat embroidered. I want to thank my parents & siblings for always being supportive, they have never doubted me or my business. I always enjoy showing them my finished products because they are always ready to give a compliment or even some constructive criticism, which I accept.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been somewhat smooth, there were times where I questioned if this was worth it, there were days where I would work more than 12 hours. One of the biggest struggles I have had is managing my time. When I worked at Jack in the Box & Boost Mobile, I was always being told what to do and when to do it. In my business, I have to be the one to manage my time right. When I don’t manage my time right, I end up working longer and more than I should.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make custom items such as shirts, decals, logos, hats, banners & more. I like that I work mostly with other businesses by providing services that will eventually help their business grow. When I go to pop-ups, there are many businesses there with banners or labels made by me and it makes me proud to see that because it is almost as if I’m helping that business grow by providing items that help them market themselves.
