Kevin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Once I started coaching youth Football and Basketball in Frisco my son and I quickly realized that most of the kids never went fishing. Sure, they kicked a soccer ball around or played basketball with friends but that’s all indoors. Plus, nowadays I think kids are born with an Xbox controller in hand. I came up with Kids Hooked on Fishing to get the kiddos outdoors and there’s nothing like feeling a tug from something under water. Most of the parents I’ve spoken with tell me their son/daughter have never even held a fishing pole.
We change that! We are an on-water boat based fishing camp where you will experience a summer of fishing, education and fun.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kids Hooked on Fishing story. Tell us more about the business.
We are an on-water boat based fishing camp that cruises the waters of Lake Lewisville in search of Crappie, Bass and Catfish. We practice catch, take a picture and release. Our ratio of guides to youth anglers is 1/3. We teach basic fishing skills along with providing memories that will last a lifetime. I am a fully licensed and insured guide along with being a Texas Parks & Wildlife certified fishing instructor.
There’s no other feeling when the kids run back to their parents after camp “begging” for them to buy a fishing pole.
We are the only full-time youth fishing camp in the area! Our goal is to have our parent company, Unplugged Outdoor Adventures to take the North Dallas area by storm in the next 2 years.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Camps have been around for a very long time…longer than my years here for sure. The industry shows a decline in camp attendance/registrations. Too many of our youths are playing video games or playing sports at massive indoor facilities. Granted these facilities are top notch but we need to get the kids outdoors.
