Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Tanner.
Donna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During college and grad school, I worked in the restaurant business, mostly upscale. I had planned to open a series of group homes for developmentally disabled adults (my sister is developmentally disabled) when I got out of grad school. After I graduated, I was hired to lead a community workshop for DD adults. I missed the restaurant business so bad; I jumped right back in. I was lucky and landed with an up-and-coming chef named Kent Rathbun. I planned private events, created an e-newsletter over 15 years ago when no one was doing it and helped to grow the business by creating a brand that was fun and innovative, Kent Rathbun Concepts. My job grew into Director of Marketing and Communications and I was there for 18 years. Seven years ago, I hired Lori Barber as a social media consultant. She did an amazing job and we always talked about going into business together. In August of 2017, Lux214 Media Group was born. We have never looked back and are growing daily. We have a great team and look forward to the future.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. There are always ups and downs, but that is part of life and we overcome them. I look at it like this; my mother died when I was 8, that was a major struggle, everything else is just a bump in the road, we need to slow down, step back and find a solution.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lux214 Media Group – what should we know?
Lux214 is a digital marketing agency. We focus on an integrated solution, social media, email marketing, public relations, website development, and SEO. We also do event marketing, where we plan and promote events. We started out focusing on restaurants, but we have clients in all different verticals from truck chassis to hair care products. I am proud of the success we have created in just a year, by helping our client grow.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I feel like our city is a great place for a business like ours, there is so much opportunity for small to medium-sized businesses to grow and we want to help them get there. The DFW area is growing at such a rapid pace that with the right strategy you can be very successful.
