Life and Work with Andrea Primas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Primas.

Andrea, a native of Denham Springs, LA, moved to Dallas in 2013. It was within the first two years of moving that ConqHer was revealed to her. As she explains, “I was in a new place, a big city, degreed, and jobless. I spent a lot of quiet time to find direction from God on what was my purpose.”

I was once that girl that needed to Conquer the odds! As a teen, I did not have that person to help guide me through those fragile years of being a teenager to becoming a woman. This meant I’ve made a lot of mistakes; I had to figure it out on my own. My mission is to be that person for girls and women to connect with. ConqHer is that safe place where we can be vulnerable, get answers, and thrive in our purpose no matter what stands in the way.

Andrea later hosted her first event in 2015 with ConqHer and never looked back. ConqHer is here to embrace, empower and equip girls and young women and help them conquer all odds. Through faith, focus and purpose you can be unstoppable in pursuit of your dreams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has definitely not been a smooth ride. I’m passionate, a perfectionist and a visionary. So, some of my battles were my mindset. Thoughts I’d think were, if I do all of this work and no one shows up, I’m a failure, not fully believing in my gifts put me back a few times, and just plain old fear. Man fear really had me trapped and stuck, but all of these things were my insecurities. What I can tell young women who are just starting is don’t wait until you have it all together because you won’t. Go forth with what you have and watch everything else fall in place. It will be scary, but do it afraid. It’s all about the faith you have in yourself because no one else can make you believe in you more than YOU. And lastly, if you’re a visionary and can visualize things, but not execute, look for people in your circle, community, church, etc… that can make it all come to life. That’s one of the things that will stall you and make you doubt the thing that was placed in you. You can’t do it all sis.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ConqHer – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m the Founder of ConqHer, Inc. where we host events and workshops for girls and young women between ages 11-35. These events range from self-care, entrepreneurship, finances, personal and professional development and outreach for homelessness, teen pregnancy, and domestic violence. As an organization, we are most proud to serve girls and women that have a desire to change for the better. What sets us apart is that we don’t only empower, but to give tools that are long-lasting and will make an impact not only to the receiver, but those in their circle, home, and community.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I personally don’t have a mentor, but I listen to podcasts and follow on social media, women that are where I desire to be and consider them my mentors. You don’t necessarily have to have a tangible person in order to get where you want to be in life. As for networking, it’s not for the faint at heart, especially for my introverted sisters. You have to be intentional when attending networking events. Go alone and put your phone away, because it puts you in a place where you have no choice but to connect with people. Be authentically you and you’ll attract the same.
