Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Woods-White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and recently moved to the North Dallas area in August 2017. I love everything about self-care from yoga, to great food, to massages, to travel… you name it! I began making bath products about ten years ago as a way to relax and also as a “side hustle” to make extra income when my daughter was young. I was working a demanding corporate job at the time and it all became a little overwhelming, so I stopped making products. I had to prioritize motherhood and my “bread and butter.” In 2013, my passion for creating products was reignited and Divine Perfection Body Care was born! I still had a full-time job at the time, but I was more determined than ever to make it work. With my daughter being a little older and more independent, I felt like I could manage it better. After coming to Texas, last year, I moved full-steam ahead with the business. I’m a newlywed as of July 2017 to my amazing husband and my beautiful daughter is now a junior in college.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh geesh! Absolutely not! Having to start almost from scratch in a new location, with a new customer base was no easy task. I truly had to build trust, reinvent myself and my brand, gain new customers and learn who my new customers were going to be. I’ve learned that you truly have to believe in yourself. Having an entrepreneurial spirit and mindset is not always accepted by those around you. It’s tough when people don’t believe in you and your vision. But you must trust your gifts. After all, God gave them to YOU! It’s all a work in progress. I wouldn’t trade it though. I’ve learned so much about myself in the process and realizing that I am so much stronger than I ever believed about myself before this journey.
Divine Perfection Body Care – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We offer handcrafted body care products that you can truly use to create your own spa at home. Everything from Aloe Vera enriched body washes, exfoliating and moisturizing sugar scrubs, rich body butters and more! Our products are “wallet friendly” so that you can enjoy indulging in self-care without stressing about it. We use high-quality ingredients like essential oils and natural additives to enhance the experience even more. All of our products are paraben and cruelty-free. I think the thing that I am most proud of is that not only do women enjoy our products but men as well. Getting great feedback about our products from men is always awesome! What makes us unique is that everything is handcrafted and made in small batches to deliver the best quality possible.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Wow, a part of me feels like I have reached some level of success. But there is so much more that I want to do. I personally define success as the ability to be able to inspire. I truly want to help people understand that self-care is a must. To be able to do that through information and education would be ideal. I want our products in as many bathrooms around the world as possible. From hotels to resorts, to spas and more. Although our online store is an efficient way to do business, I love the interaction with people directly. So, having several storefronts is definitely a marker for me as we expand. Success for me, in a nutshell, is to be able to wake up each morning and do what I love and that is to encourage and inspire people. It just happens to be through my body care products.
