Today we’d like to introduce you to Jente Carter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jente. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, hello everyone! I was born and raised in Dallas, TX.
As a young girl at the age of 13, I had a passion for denim jeans, my mom would always try to get me to wear girly clothes and I just didn’t like it at all, lol. I was such a tomboy. Well, as the years went by, my passion for denim grew stronger, I found myself just buying jeans just to have them, in high school that’s all I had even if it was a skirt it had to be Denim as well, I had this one class in high school that really challenged my creativeness, we built balloon arches, made pillows and etc. So, in all honesty, I applied it to the fashion world, I begin cutting up jeans, but really not knowing what was really a trend back in the gap, lol. After I graduated from Lincoln High school in 2005. I applied the pressure on myself on becoming a fashion designer, but as we know sometimes life takes a toll over us and we push our dreams to the side. And gear towards other things had my first child in 2007, got my first real full-time job and I just put being a fashion designer on hold.
Three years went by and I still wasn’t trying to focus on being a fashion designer, I was all into cars and etc. But in 2010, that’s when my whole entire life changed. Got married, had two more children, went through a lot of physical abuse, verbal abuse, lost a child and lost myself as well. While going through all of that, I went through this very dark stage in my life, I thought I wasn’t anything, gave up on myself, wanted to take my life and everything. Because I just felt like I had no more fight in me. But after I lost my daughter in 2013, it made me look at life so much different. I regained my strength, my confidence, and the Love within myself. I still had my other three children that I have to raise and they are watching every move that I’m making, so giving up has never been an option.
So, for all of you that are reading this, I want you to stay focused, stay motivated and keep your faith stronger. Because I want you to remember that whatever you may be going through it’s only temporary.
No matter how negative people can be you just remain positive through it all. Because what God has for you, it’s for you and no one can change that.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been pretty cool. I’ve met some amazing people along my journey. I’m definitely all about creating memories, helping others build their brand, building a sisterhood and just knowing that it’s enough for all of us to win.
Please tell us about Denim By Jente.
Denim By Jente is an upcycling clothing company. We take gently used denim and turn it into very fashionable pieces. And the goal is to make to you look at denim a whole lot different, denim is very trendy and very easy to work with.
I definitely specialize in customizing denim. It’s my favorite thing to do, it excites me to see how denim can be turned into many things.
I’m really known for my big hair, lol, long lashes and wearing tennis shoes during our grand finale walk at fashion shows. But everyone knows I’m the denim G.O.A.T and the support is real.
I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built with all the amazing people that God has placed in my life. The amazing support from my mother and children.
The main thing that sets me apparat is that I’ve created my own lane, I stay in my lane and I don’t plan on gearing off of it. I plan on leveling up more, learning more, adding more to my brand and helping others do the same.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. Because I truly believe I have a gift. A lot of people ask me did I go to school for fashion design, and my answer all the time is NO. My granny taught me how to sew.
You don’t need a degree for something God already blessed you with.
