Today we’d like to introduce you to Anum Tahir and Hira Ahmed.
Anum, Hira, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A & H Decoratory’s birth was serendipitous! Ours is a story of two creatives who met on social media through a random arts and crafts page and blossomed our love for decor, design, and dessert into an endearing friendship that eventually led us to partner in this business together.
It was our childhood dream to thrive in a creative world. However, this dream seemed to be fading with all the responsibilities of adulthood and especially motherhood brings. However, it was within our friendship, we would plan, party and design for each other’s special occasions and in the process of it all we realized how much we loved planning and designing for peoples’ big life moments and wanted to make something of it. We both love the emotion and satisfaction it brings to be able to create joy for others. Our friends started suggesting how it would work out great if we were to pursue this as an actual business – even the cake vendors would compliment how their cakes and desserts would come alive with our dessert table decor and backdrop. It may have seemed something so extraordinary to other buts came so natural to us.
Even though both of us come from different educational backgrounds – one with a degree in Health care and another with a degree in Emerging Media and Communication – Creativity was always been innate – One of us is a dessert diva, the other is the queen of Graphic Design – together we love decor and design. Partnering with each other has been a dream come true because we both contribute significantly to the beauty of our business with a unique and different skill set.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been extremely blessed with a good mixture of exciting party themes and magical clients. However, every venture has its challenges and we’ve labeled our struggles as ‘learning moments’ because we have grown substantially internally and externally from them. One such growth has been in terms our self-realization – to be exceedingly confident about what we do, why we do what we do and how we do it – To realize our worth in a sea of event planners and pricing our services accordingly.
Clients don’t know everything there is to know about what you do and how you do, it’s up to you to communicate your value through great customer service and making your client’s big moments like your own. We have learned to rise above from competitors who are competing on price and undervaluing other event planning businesses by offering lacking services.
Another learning curve has come in terms of balancing our SAHM (stay at home mom) roles/lifestyle and a booming business that requires us to be away from our little on the weekends. While it was tough at first, we have now come to embrace the beauty of having me-time to rejuvenate doing what we love doing and being the happy mom they need.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Anum: I’ve always loved traveling and my dad worked for the airlines. So, all my favorite/happy memories are affiliated with traveling, from road trips to international trips. Experiences and exposure are/were my thrill. My favorite memory is of our family taking a trip to the northern areas of Pakistan – we had been on the road for around 24 hours – I saw places I’ve never seen before and on our way to the final destination, a small town called ‘Kalaam’, close to Swat valley, we drove on the most narrow dirt road on a steep mountain, next to the fastest flowing river I have ever seen with clouds coming in and out of car window. I thought it was heaven.
Hira: my most favorite memory from childhood is when in 8th grade, I did an animal cell science project with my creative oriented mother. The animal cell was entirely made out of candy. The bonding during this project was just pure fun. We kept eating the candy if it did not set right in the project. I won first prize.
