Meet Fredrick Carter of Carters Captures in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fredrick Carter.

Fredrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Getting started with photography was an out of ordinary experience. It all became a thought when I was at my wife’s graduation and ended up catching some shots of her while she was walking through the ceremony. One of the pictures I caught of her was said to be great and that I definitely have an eye for photography. After my wife’s graduation day ended, I proceeded to go on with my life and continue my days as a college basketball player.

The second instance came when one of my friends, Jeremy Hunt, wanted me to take some pictures of him with his camera, in which I was very excited to do. After conversation kept surfacing on how I had that “eye” for photography, and through various influences from my wife, wife’s mother, and my friend Jeremy I eventually was able to buy myself a camera.

I started off with a Canon Rebel T6i, but recently just switched over to a Canon 6d Mark 2. It amazes me how far I have came with editing, socializing, and the promotional side of photography, because it has allowed me to collaborate with several individuals in the DFW, while also booking several shoots.

I am just thankful that I was able to take those pictures at my wife’s graduation because without that experience I wouldn’t even be here talking about photography. When God allows for your talents to be exposed, I encourage everyone to grab hold of that talent and build it up to what you desire it to be!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My photography journey has been somewhat a smooth journey. I think the only struggles that I have up to this day would be for my ability to find a sustainable editing style which could allow me to stand out from other photographers.

I think that I am doing a good job at it, but I just want to be able to always learn more trick and concepts that I could be able to incorporate into my photography. Other than that struggle, I think that sometimes I struggle with the social media aspect of it too and how I would like for my work to reach a bigger crowd that could ultimately result in more bookings for my business.

Please tell us about Carters Captures.
My business is currently specialized in photography. The most proud thing that I have to say about my business will be on its ability to grow. Allowing myself to see that I am better than I was a year ago really speaks volumes to me, while also granting me personal gratification that I could continue to grow into bigger and better things.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think that I would have done anything differently, because of the simple fact that everything happens for a reason. With me being just one year into photography, I know that I will continue to grow into the photographer that I wish to be.
