Meet Courtney Ellis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Ellis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My appreciation for homes and for neighborhoods dates back to my childhood in the Texas Hill Country. My parents raised five kids between several major home renovation projects; teaching us that homes are created through vision and creativity. Those projects gave me a passion for a lot of things, but especially for restoration and for life — in people, in communities, and in homes.

After studying journalism at Texas A&M University, I spent a few years in Washington, DC fundraising on Capitol Hill. It was there that I learned to listen first and “pitch” second. I returned to Texas to work another few years as an Account Manager at a Dallas startup, where I was able to watch bold entrepreneurs take risks and work well under pressure.

My launch into residential real estate was somewhat accidental, and even though my dad and brothers had encouraged me to get my license, it took a conversation with my current office leader, Matt Templeton, to seal the deal. A couple of years with Keller Williams Urban Dallas and I’ve had opportunities to work with buyers, sellers, and renters all over Dallas.

Last year, my husband, Southern, and I purchased a 1910 Craftsman in East Dallas, and we’re wrapping up that restoration project now. And, in September, right around the time we were choosing the stone for our countertops, baby Stone Clayton Ellis joined our family, just in time to enjoy the final stage of our kitchen renovation.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like all careers, real estate certainly has a learning curve, but for me, much of what it involves are things I’ve enjoyed my entire life. Real estate gives me direct access to people, insight into neighborhoods and areas, and it allows me to play a part in the stories being written in individual lives and within communities.

Because every client is different, and every deal seems to present new challenges, I get daily opportunities to work with new personalities, learn better ways to communicate and master new negotiation tactics. For my buyers, there’s a treasure to be found, and for my sellers, there’s a story to be told.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Like my logo suggests, real estate involves planting (and transplanting!) roots that will hopefully run deep and produce fruit. Though my gardening skills need some refining, I’m a tree planter. I enjoy planting my clients in places where they can flourish and impact their neighborhoods.

Buyers are often looking for places to plant roots, and sellers are often looking for places to send out their roots. To do that well, my architect husband handles all my marketing, both print and online. He also provides valuable staging and design insight for my sellers, as well as creative renovation ideas for my buyers. I get to work with fantastic lenders and title companies, as well as inspectors, appraisers, and insurance experts.

From search to close, lots of questions pop up, and thankfully, I know where to go to get the answers. Through the restoration of our home, as well as those of some of my clients, I’ve made relationships with (in my opinion) the top contractors and sub-contractors in the business. Whether my clients are looking for someone to tear down and reframe a wall, refinish old flooring, install detailed trim work, or simply fix a broken toilet, I know someone who’s perfected their craft.

Getting a home ready to sell, and making a house a home, are two seasons of life that I love. I believe homes are where people are restored, where they are loved, and where the deep stories of life unfold.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I spend quite a bit of time at the Dallas Arboretum, even more time with friends from our church, City Church International, but one of my favorite parts about the city is Dallas Police Chief Reneé Hall. I believe in the way she’s leading toward peace by promoting justice and unity in the department and throughout the city of Dallas.

As I look around my neighborhood (and many other neighborhoods in Dallas), I see great potential as it relates to both the public school system and unity among races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. That potential excites me, and I look forward to being a part of the progress.

I knew that Courtney was going to be a huge success in Real Estate the minute I met her. Icing on the cake was that she and my daughter shared a best friend (that I just LOVE) so there was an instant connection. Besides her amazing style and growing knowledge of the industry, she truly cares about her clients. This girl is going places!
