Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Castro.
Carly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I started as a stay at home mom, I have loved doing hair, and it’s always been my passion, but it took me too long to finally have the courage to go to go school for it.
As I was a stay at home mom, I knew I had to do this, this was my calling, and I needed a career that I could make a living out of. I then finished hair school at Toni & Guy. Took me a year but I did it with the support of my family and my fiancé. Definitely took some dedication considering my babies were only two and one years old. After hair school, I started booth renting and did some clients, some still regulars now, but definitely not where I wanted to be.
I started interviewing at high-end salons but nothing. They would tell me the interview went amazing and I wouldn’t get a callback. Until this day, those owners are a very inspiring woman, but I’m glad I still ends up doing my own thing. After booth rent, I got my own suite and worked there six months until I decided I didn’t want to be somewhere so small. I wanted to manage, and I wanted to help other women grow in the beauty industry.
I wanted to own my own salon which was my greatest goal. I then realized that a suite wasn’t for me and I needed to branch out. I then found this spot with a great location. I then leased, and now I have a team of strong women who are amazing at what they do. I’m glad to call them MY team. Strong, hard-working women. I will not give up this is only the beginning of what I have planned and what my goals are.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all, lots of hardships: money, time management, parenting my children while being at work so much, finding reliable employees. Promoting our business has been hard too, but referrals have definitely helped.

My business name is bombshell studio & salon. I specialize in highlights and blondes. I am most proud of the team of strong women I manage. We are humbled women building each other up. We work as a team, promote each other as a team, and more importantly, we share a great bond as a team. We offer hair services, body waxing, facials, lash extensions, nails. We are a one-stop shop!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
A lesson I learned is that I should have finished hair school back in high school where I first took courses. I would have completed my Degree and owned my own business A lot sooner.
