Keith, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Betty Jean’s House of Style has been in the works for quite a while. Failing with other boutiques has taught me many lessons and everytime we open one it only gets better. Its named after my mom who is also my business partner. We specialize in high-end new and upscale resale attire, purses, jewelry,etc. We also style models, city officials and hold small boutique events like top model Christmas mixers and small boutique trunk shows. We have been open since late August of this yr, and we are located in the Historical Lancaster Town Square. Brands we carry include St John Knit, Ralph Lauren, Ferragamo, Chanel, etc.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, as a small black business owner, it is very hard to gain the support of your community. We have closed many stores for this very reason but find new ways to improve our product each time. Its very rewarding but can be a struggle. Having events like our Coppersignatures Christmas Top Model Mixer helps bring awareness to our business. We plan on doing more right after the new yr.

Our specialty is high-end upscale resale attire, We are known for having St John Knit. Our clients come from all over the metroplex looking for our latest pieces. Ladies cowboy boots and ripped jeans are also things we specialize at Betty Jean’s House of Style. You can find unique one of a kind vintage pieces as well and a handful of antiques. One of our store backdrops actually includes the vault door from the bank Bonnie and Clyde robbed back in the day.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always into sports and fashion. I was quiet but observed everything. I grew in a pretty good neighborhood, and sports provided me the opportunity to travel. I have also been a fashion model professionally since age nine.
