Meet Edmundo Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edmundo Rodriguez.

Edmundo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like most kids, I wanted to be like my dad. He used to take pictures all the time, and he had the coolest camera. My parents are divorced, so that meant separate Christmas celebrations. When I was a kid, one Christmas I strategized my Christmas list so that my mom would get me a camera lens and my dad would get me a Pentax K1000 film camera body.

After a few years, life moved my interests elsewhere, and I didn’t shoot much. I picked up a DSLR camera in 2009 and started learning again. This time I was hooked. I started re-learning by watching tons of YouTube videos and attending workshops. I learned (and am still learning) how to use all kinds of light. I shot anybody who would let me. I would participate in charity walks like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Dallas Heart Walk and then share my photos with them.

The Dallas Alzheimer’s association now reaches out to me for their walk photography.

I’ve started reaching out to creatives in the area to work with them, and I have been able to build friendships and working relationships with a few of them, and now my main goal is just to keep creating and learning.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been easy to stay creative. There have been times when I question my skills and allow other’s opinions to affect my thinking. I have allowed negative feedback to feed into a negative self-image; so I have had to really reflect and figure out what causes me to betray myself and move forward in creating and keeping my own true style.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I specialize in photography and videography. I do portraits, and I love documenting with video. I take pride in knowing that I am capable of capturing the beauty of a moment in a photograph and also have the ability to create and edit video with my own style.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I look forward to working with more creatives, especially in the music industry. I plan on creating and sharing more entertaining content with talented artists in the area. I’m transitioning my photography to a more dramatic feel and will start filling my Instagram/Facebook feed with more behind the scenes stuff.
