Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Johnson.
Bryan, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a self-taught director/cinematography/photographer originally from Ozark, Alabama. I picked up a camera several years at the request of one of my good friends and I’ve been behind one ever since. I’ve always enjoyed movies I never thought I’ve created one, not in a million years.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I directed, filmed, and released my first short film “Unbiased Killer” in 2018. I believe written word is a great means of storytelling, but I feel nothing is compared to stories told through a visual means. I have filmed music videos, weddings, and short films. Next year, I will release two full feature films. Both of which are love stories, one tentatively titled “Springtime in Harlem” and the other “Love to A Fault”. As a youth, I didn’t enjoy writing but I write my own films as well. I enjoy writing strong female leads. I believe women are the centerpiece to a great story. I’ve yet to release a full feature only short films to this point, but I am up to the challenge. I also have I produce which I’ve name titled “Life is Sport.” Its purpose is to bring awareness to the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. The benefits of a daily exercise routine and good eating regiment are too good not to share. I have lived by a motto “Positive Thoughts Always Prevail” for years. I genuinely believe that one’s state of mind adversely affects the trajectory of his or her life. I want to serve as a source of inspiration for people across the world. Through my words and my actions, I want to be an example, that we can do anything. Some people don’t have a beacon of hope, if I can give one person that itch to be better, do better I’m satisfied. I take pictures and create films because that’s my passion. I truly enjoy every minute behind the camera.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Absolutely, my advice for an artist looking to connect with other artist is be active on all social media platforms. Let other artists know you are willing to collaborate. Show people that you are humble and willing to have normal conversations. I believe too many artists feel they are bigger than the picture.
