Meet Jennifer Raymond of The Modern Rebels in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Raymond.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’ve worked in Corporate America for my whole adult life, and after having my son in March of 2017, I decided to do something for me by purging all of my creative energy into something that I could be proud of.

Most of my career I was told how to dress, how to look, how to speak; after leaving a company that I thought I was going to retire with an emerging into my 30’s, I developed this creative, rebellious urge to not only make people feel/look amazing but to deliver a message that it’s ok to be uniquely you.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! I began creating clothing that initially wasn’t my style because I thought that that’s what people wanted. It took some time to realize that I need to put out what I loved and not what everyone else expected. I had to learn that it was ok to be different.

You may lose some people by doing this, but you will gain a heck of a lot more that will like you for that exact reason. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, learned from them and moved forward with trying to educate myself on the in’s and out’s of the retail/apparel business. It’s not easy, but anything that is worth it rarely is.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Modern Rebels story. Tell us more about the business.
I run an online apparel business called “The Modern Rebels.” I create clothing with powerful sayings from infants to adults that push the message of “Rebelling against the norm” or to “Exist on your own terms.” To never allow anyone to tell you who or how to be.

My biggest audience is fellow Mama’s who struggle with feeling like they are always coming up short. I try to relate with them by saying “It’s ok to say you’re tired” or “I don’t have it all together.” None of us really do. I created “The Blissfully Exhausted Club” T-shirt with these Mommin’ hard warriors in mind, and it’s been a hit ever since.

I want my customers to be able to feel like not only can they get a rad graphic tee from me but also someone who gets how hard life can be too. I’m not some big corporate retail company who could care less about their experience with them but rather someone who enjoys creating relationships with those who support me and my business.

Everything that comes out of my shop is designed, screen printed, packaged and shipped by me! I take pride in giving my customers high-quality clothing and excellent customer service that they deserve.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the apparel industry only getting bigger and bigger. There is now more bold and exciting designs coming out for all ages which was unheard of ten years ago! Small businesses have made a huge impact on retail, and I love seeing the growth and new opportunities that are now available.
