Conversations with the Inspiring Ellie Grace Eichler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Grace Eichler.

Ellie Grace, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So, I’ve been blogging since I was about seven – I remember putting together my first website and having an entire page just for my friends’ phone numbers! (Not a good idea privacy-wise, by the way). My current blog, Tree Filtered Sunlight, was created in 2016. I had just taken a trip to Europe with my best friend and I was about to start college for the third(ish) time. I wanted to blog about my trip experience as well as my college transfer experience. I ended up getting busy and not really knowing what to do, so my blogging went stagnant up until mid 2018. Then, I went at it with a vengeance! I’m a creative writing and psychology double major, so I knew blogging would let me utilize both of my degrees in a really creative way. So, I started meeting up with Dallas bloggers and slowly gained a bit of a following. I still consider myself an up-and-coming blogger, but it’s one of the most fulfilling and exciting hobbies I have.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh, there are struggles! Especially if you focus on Instagram where the dreaded algorithm changes every five days (or so it feels like). There have been so many times where I was connecting with my followers and my engagement was high and everything was awesome – and then, all of the sudden it tanked. People weren’t seeing my posts anymore, I wasn’t getting comments or likes… it can be so stressful to follow the numbers. Usually, when this happens to me (as it often does), I feel really defeated. I’m naturally a positive person but I can get in a completely negative headspace. My best advice would be to focus on connections when this happens. Make an Insta story and share your struggle with your followers. Most people will be so sweet and understanding! I have to remind myself all the time the reason I post on Instagram and blog in the first place: to express my creativity and have genuine relationships with like-minded people.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Tree Filtered Sunlight story. Tell us more about it.
I consider myself a life and style blogger! So, if you were to go on Tree Filtered Sunlight, my blog, you’d see fashion guides, how-to posts, travel diaries, lookbooks… that kind of content! I’m known for my super colorful style and quirkiness, which also happens to be what sets me apart. My message is that everyone has a unique style; it’s fun and fulfilling to embrace the weird and the colorful! And I’m most proud of my high-quality photos for sure. The more I do and learn, the better my pictures and content become.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here?
Totally! When I was fifteen, I moved from Southern California here to Dallas. It was a huge change and transition, but I think it helped my communication and networking skills immensely! Also, moving is one of those things that forces perspective on you, and being open-minded is so important. The more I travel and move, the more open-minded I become.
