We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. I am a first generation entrepreneur. Every business venture, every event, I have had to figure out on my own. I have looked for mentoring thinking that if I just had one person that could help guide me just a little it would save me a lot of time, heartache and money.

Only to be taken advantage of or have my ideas stolen by the “mentors” that I looked up to. I have run into gatekeepers and women with what I like to call the “Queen Bee” attitude. Instead of helping to lift up those that are behind them and pushing to make a difference they keep their foot on the necks of others and try to block the window of opportunity.

This is why I have so much passion for the women who are coming up behind me. A candle does not lose its light by lighting another. I aim to set the city on fire. I want to light the world up with a legacy of women who are their sister’s keeper for real. Who cares about the next generation of female entrepreneurs. When one rises, we all rise.

I am a powerhouse for women! Everything that I do from being a Master Hairstylist, make up artist, being an author and Instructor of cosmetology, right down to the events that I host and put together all lead to women’s empowerment.

When I am teaching my cosmetology students, I am passionate. I care that they know everything that I know and that their lives are better just from having met me. I care about my students, and I want the best for them. I partner with them for life. Not just during school, but I make sure that they pass state board, that they are employed. And I am always there to offer advise.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, lol! Where do I start? My mom was a teen mom. She had me when she was 15. So growing up for me there was a lot of responsibility. I was very smart. My sister always says that I will never be forgotten, because of the way that I put my clothes together even we were younger.

I was very quirky and eccentric. I was a cheerleader, I danced on the dance team, I was on the flag team, and I loved the Lord. I preached my first sermon when I was 12 years old. I was a leader by nature.
