Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxwell Cline.
Maxwell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Started my hair story at Ogle in Dallas, on Mockingbird. Quickly realized that this was more than just a career for me. I was selected as a semifinalist for Wella’s TrendVision, and took first place in the Spring/Summer Category. Began my apprenticeship under a man that came from the fekkai culture. My specialties are cuts, styling and natural hair. I am now a full-time stylist at SCENE Salon in the Dallas Design District. Where I work with two amazing colorists, a barber and another stylist like myself. Who together have well over 60 years of experience.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s actually sometimes difficult being a hairdresser when there is so much talent in this industry. I always wanted to be an editorial stylist. Still not there yet! Lol. I have to keep reminding myself not to get in my head and there is always something that sets us all apart individually.
Maxwell @ SCENE – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I consider myself an independent “contractor” if you will. I work with in a salon with great people. But when the opportunity arises I do like to take part in photo shoots, weddings, and dabble in a little make up here and there. My specialties are cuts, styling, and natural hair. People know me for three things, I’m nurturing, persistent and not to talk to me after I’ve had my morning espresso. I’m really proud of the fact that people are starting to recognize who I am, and what I do. I love that the stylist and clients in Dallas actually have a pretty good relationship and connection with each other. Most of everyone I have met has been very supporting of me and my brand that I am building. What sets me apart? I could tell you it’s my attention to detail or my style. But I think it’s my level of customer service and hunger for high fashion. I worked in the luxury retail industry for a bit. It really helped me grow and taught me how to take it to the next level for people sitting in my chair or models and photographers I work with.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting to be where I am today. I’m happy in my career, who I work with and the clients I have. I know it sounds cheesy but getting to do what you love especially as an artist, just feels like the best accomplishment so far!
