Meet Tikisha Johnson of Vault by V (The Visionista) in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tikisha Johnson.

Tikisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Die Hard THRIFTER who loves to Repurpose vintage pieces and thrifted finds.
My mom used to thrift back in the day when it wasn’t cool to thrift, I would tag along and find clothes for myself because, in high school, I would keep track of what I wore so that I wouldn’t wear the same outfit twice within a two-week time frame. Thrifting stuck with me as I got older and it allowed me to express myself, create eclectic and unique ensembles all while on a budget.

I’ve always worked in the retail industry and I would assist customers on a daily basis on what to wear. While working, customers would always compliment my style or how I would arrange a look for them to purchase. In 2010, I decided to step out on faith and create my own lane that allowed me to be me “The Visionista.” My goal was and still is, as The Visionista, to rely on a keen eye to enhance one’s inner beauty and bring out the innovative you. Through my GOD given talent, I’ve been able to host multiple Fashion Shows of my own, advise and direct clothing for photography as well as styled professional and celebrity clientele.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will say that there have been a few challenges, and the road hasn’t been smooth. Being in the Fashion Industry, you have to know who you are. A lot of times, people don’t know who they are so they tend to follow the crowd and do what the crowd is doing at that time. Following certain trends and fads that often fade away as soon as it starts. As a thrifter, I would find that it wasn’t accepted sometimes, because the mentality was that it was just “OLD CLOTHES.” Changing one’s mindset and making them see the big picture would often be my challenge. When a client sees the item on a hanger, their first thought is “WHAT IS THAT and WHAT ARE YOU ABOUT TO DO WITH THAT?” I had to figure out a way to show people that thrifted finds are small hidden treasures that can be amazing IF you pair it with the right items.
