Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Rohal.
Jo, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Click2Restore was born in June 2017, a few months after we moved to Texas. It all started when I bought my first Ethan Allen dresser from a flipper. She told me about furniture painting in this area and asked if I knew how to paint. I did know a little bit but I was eager to learn then. So, I started watching videos, reading tutorials and experimenting. And my first painted flipped piece was a lane cedar chest and my first buyer is one of a forever client, admirer and supporter. I am now painting a hutch for her. So, it was such an amazing feeling that I didn’t want to do anything but paint. In no time, I started painting furniture and getting custom orders. As I was meeting clients and working with them, I started loving Texas and making new relationships. The feeling of being without a family here started vanishing. I so enjoyed this whole interaction that I wanted to dig deeper and then my world changed completely. Here I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it was a smooth road but it wasn’t a tough one either. I believe that every experience is a lesson and to be remembered as positive learning. So, in this journey, the only thing smooth was clarity of mind about my passion to restore furniture and add value to my client’s experience. Except that everything was a learning curve. There was so much to learn and research to do on various aspects of this field to deliver it all as a package. When I look back now, I see a few things that made me struggle:
1. Too much information is available to sort out from, what I should pick and what will click with my clients.
2. Managing clients expectations and delivering a memorable experience to them.
3. Paints and tools to invest in. I started with a minimum budget dependent upon the inflow, so I had to really plan it well.
Now, when I think of those days, everything seems like learning, instead of a struggle- that made me a better and complete crafter of my art.
Please tell us about Click2Restore.
My business is about refinishing and restoring furniture, both clients owned and my projects. It involves giving a new life to a good quality wood piece through steps of a restoration of shape or damage, developing a color scheme based on relevant style and then transforming the vision on that piece. In other words, it is “the same soul in a new body.”
The furniture refinishing comes to me in three ways, one – Doing my own projects, two – Doing clients piece but in my own style and three – Doing clients piece and transforming them as per their vision. The last category is the most challenging as it involves a lot of understanding about what the client wants vs. what will fit on the piece. And this is what I am known for and I take pride in. I have successfully delivered myriad projects in various styles of painting for a diversified clientele. I have worked on a lot of heirloom piece, that has been in a family for generations. I understand the sentiments behind treasuring those piece in a family and hence, it’s most important for me to transform my client’s vision on their furniture. I also work closely with my prospective clients to find the right piece that fits their needs and budget. Besides refinishing furniture, I make wood-signs and do upholstery.
I specialize in a modern farmhouse and bohemian style. Though I have done all style of furniture this is my forte. I am known for creating a crisp and clean finish on any furniture. To add to it, time and again I have created my own finishes and textures on my projects and few of my client’s piece which was loved too. I am also known for the ability to bring my client’s vision on their piece – by discussing and understanding their specific preferences in terms of style, finish, color, home interior, color schemes, etc. And also to add, I walk them with me throughout the process of refinishing their furniture, from the time of signing the contract until delivery to their doorstep.
Something that sets me apart is customer centricity. And it reflects in my tagline “Your Furniture Your Way.” I have the skill to deliver a unique experience of bundling up furniture refinishing into fulfilling client satisfaction. From the time, I meet my clients until the delivery of furniture I am one to one involved with them ensuring every step is towards the agreed end goal and zero surprises. I also share good practices and a goody bag with all my clients to maintain their refinished treasures for times to come.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was very active. Besides a good student, I was great at extracurricular activities. Be it sports, dramatics, dancing, artist… you name it and I was on top. The best memory that I can think of now is being one of the only names amongst my school teachers to decorate their class boards or hallways boards on different occasions in school. They literally trusted me so much that they let me create anything with paints, chalks, paper, colored wood scraps, flower petals, etc. And it was so loved and appreciated. Now, when I am pursuing this artistic side of mine as a hobby, irrespective of the fact that I am an attorney, I think and totally relate that it was destined to happen. And those memories feel so special now.
