Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Samad.
Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I went to the University of Houston to study Political Science and Psychology. I wanted to pursue Law but I didn’t take the actions to actually try to get into Law School. I landed a job at MD Anderson Cancer Center. I was in business operations at a research department. While working, I went to grad school at TWU and got my MBA to open more doors for my future. After I graduated, I decided healthcare isn’t where I wanted to be. It felt like a chore going into work every day.
I come from a family of Realtors, Brokers, and Investors. My family has been in real estate for 30+ years. My dad always told me to do Real Estate and invest in it. I followed his advice and decided to get my Real Estate license. Being a Realtor is so exciting in many ways, yet still very challenging. Each day is an adventure and you never know what is going to happen with your sale!
I met my husband in 2013 at my friend’s wedding. It turned out that he was also a Real Estate Investor (so crazy!) and was just starting his business. We got married in 2015 and I decided to move to Dallas. We have flipped, invested and sold so many homes together. We are practically your Chip and Joanna Gaines of DFW!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. The journey has been challenging, yet thrilling. The Real Estate market is VERY competitive and finding homes to invest in, and finding buyers/sellers can be difficult. Inventory on homes is getting low and sometimes, I can go a month or so without getting paid. You have to manage your business at all times, network and be consistent.
One of the big things you have to know is that you will get a lot of “no’s” for every “yes.” However, each “no” is one step closer to a “yes” When you begin your career in real estate, you have to be strong and not let the “no’s” get you down. Be strong, be persistent, show your knowledge to the community, and advertise the heck out of yourself and you will do great!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in helping homeowners and potential homeowners achieve their “American Dream” of owning real estate. The thing that I am most proud of is the fact that I am able to ease the stress and burden for my clients and to help them get where they want to go. What I mean by that is that I take the personal steps to really get to know my clients, and figure out what each member of their families needs are and to help them achieve those goals. Throughout the process, I wear multiple hats. I guide my clients through each difficult step and also provide staging, photography, scheduling appointments, open houses, marketing, moving accommodations, and other various roles.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
An important piece of advice I can give is that most problems can be solved. Don’t get stuck worrying about the day to day problems that can arise in your work. Remind yourself of the bigger picture and what you want to achieve. That will always help you refocus.
