Meet Ethan Severin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Severin.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Mckinney, TX with my parents and one younger brother. I’ve literally been singing all my life, from a very young age I decided that I either wanted to be a rockstar or a CIA agent… which eventually just worked itself out for me. My early musical influences were exclusively Christian due to the fact that that was all my parents allowed in our house, but in middle school, I was introduced to the full scope of what I had been missing. I remember listening to Journey for the first time and being mad at my folks for depriving me of such absolute brilliance. In high school, I played trumpet in the marching band. I loved it cause it made me feel like I was apart of something bigger than myself(i suppose I could have gotten that feeling from any other after-school activity, but band was the one I chose). Then after I graduated, I went to college in Missouri to study worship and church leadership. (I never actually wanted to work in the church, but after graduation, I had no idea what to do so it felt like the right move.) It was there that I really started to learn who I wanted to be as a musician and a person. The opportunities I got while there really fortified the dreams that I already had and birthed so many more. I wanted to sing, I wanted to perform, but more than that, I wanted people to feel passionately loved and to every night go to bed knowing that I was the best part of someone’s day. It was that epiphany that prompted me to start calling myself Ethan2.0. He’s the same guy, just a better version. After college, I came home and was on staff at my home church as the worship director for two years, then i resigned and started singing covers in clubs, casinos, and now, weddings. I released my first EP, Dramatic Tendencies in May of 2018 and am currently working on a full-length album.

Please tell us about your art.
I cover some of this in my story, but I primarily see myself as a dream-caster, a visionary. Most of my songs are not actually rooted in reality, but based on the fantasy world I’ve created in my head. Having said that, I write songs about how I want people to behave, or the romance I hope I’ll find, or how I wish I’d be perceived. I feel as if we are force fed with reality too much. Obviously we can’t completely excuse ourselves from it, but there’s nothing wrong with the occasional escape, in fact, I think it’s healthy to take some time every day to live in a world where anything and everything is possible. That’s why I make my music the way that it is, I want it to act as a catalyst to allow people to imagine life as fantastically as they can. I firmly believe that the only thing standing between us and our dreams is our imagination. Once your able to envision something, you can begin to make it a reality.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I’ve put a great deal of thought into what my ultimate goals are and what would need to happen to consider myself successful. What I’ve decided is that while I have many music-related goals, my music, in itself, isn’t really going to help anybody. I want to make a difference in the world. I’ll consider myself a success the day that I am able to comfortably live off 10% or my income and give the rest to whoever needs it more than me. Music is the vehicle that’s getting me there, but ultimately generosity is my destination.

Nobody ever accomplished anything important by themselves. Never. Look at any successful person, and in every situation, there were probably hundreds of people who had a part in hoisting that person to those heights.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
