James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I guess it all started from birth. I grew up in Nashville and was immersed in audio/video. My mother had a successful music career. My father was a professor of audio engineering and had a music scoring business. These two taught me everything I know about audio/video. My grandfather had a large-scale sheet metal manufacturing business in Dallas for 40 years. I always looked up to him and he made me realize that I wanted to pursue my passion and create my own success. My wife Laura has played an enormous role in all of this. She introduced me to her father Gary, an extremely successful business owner across multiple industries. We had a path finding business discussion while in the middle of my move from the University of North Texas back to Dallas. In that moment, he made me realize I needed to go into the audio/video industry. Ever since Laura has come into my life, she has encouraged me, supported me and helped me build my business. She has pulled me through the dark times and has stood by my side. I’ve been extremely lucky to have all the support by the incredibly intelligent and caring people in my life. Without them I would not be here.
Has it been a smooth road?
With any business comes the highs and lows. I have persevered through the challenges and I will continue to challenge myself to make my business succeed. It’s been hard with having the extensive amount of work and balancing my day to day.

I am in the Audio/Video product and installation industry. Whether it’s home theater or professional audio 1AV does it all. No job is too big or too small. We specialize in motor home installations which is what we are known for. I’m most proud of the relationships that are created with the happy customers that keeps the business booming. 1AV is a 24/7 service to help out customers who might have inflexible working hours. That is what sets us apart from our competitors by putting the client first.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas, Texas is what I would consider the land of opportunity. I have had the pleasure of meeting a wide variety of successful individuals who have put forth a helping hand. The rapid growth Dallas is encountering is going to push 1AV to new heights. As we all know, weather plays a role in most physical labor jobs, my being no exception. But like most Texans say, if you don’t like the weather now just wait a few minutes.
