Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamil Ali.
Kamil, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business of reselling shoes when I was in high school six years ago when I was about 17 or 18. I was a big collector of jordans and nikes, and I still am and at the time I had gotten an internship with the Dallas Mavericks G league affiliate Texas Legends. I was blessed to meet a numerous amount of NBA players and build relationships with them. So I decided why not become a reseller if I am able to share my passion of sneakers with others and make a business out of it. I love shoes and I wanted to share it with others. I always had an entrepreneur mindset. So in 10/11th grade back in 2013, I decided to create a website which is flykicksdfw.com and buy shoes which were highly sought after and resell them for a profit to many NBA players.
Over the years, I have been blessed to be able to sell to over a dozen NBA players, some I cannot name but a few include former Dallas Mavericks All-star Josh Howard who I am able to call a great friend and current OKC Thunder player Patrick Patterson, former Clipper Corey Maggette. Personally, I have over 50 pairs of sneakers personally and about 30 of them I have never worn not even once. This is more of a hobby for me rather than full-on business, It is something I enjoy. The Jordan resell market is still strong so if there is ever a shoe, you need, please contact me. In 2018 we hit our five-year mark and I plan on growing in any way I can, the power of social media does wonders for me. I have traveled over the years to many sneaker conventions in different states to buy inventory as well as sell, it’s really fun in my books. It’s amazing to watch NBA games in person or on TV and get to see players wearing the sneakers I got them.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been smooth but sometimes it can get tough. In the shoe game, there is a lot of fake resellers. People will try to sell you fake shoes in this industry so you have to be careful with what you are doing and buying. The funny part is you have people contact you on a daily basis asking if you get shoes for cheaper than retail. Which is false. I get for retail or over retail at times and I resell above that price. Nothing is cheaper on my end. The struggle in this business is that it can get pricey since I love shoes I love to buy myself personal pairs as well, and sometimes it’s just not reasonable. Shoes can resell anywhere from $200 up to $800 even more. The highest resell on a single pair of shoes I did was $5500 for one.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fly Kicks DFW – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I buy and resell all Jordans that release and other Nike and Adidas shoes. Mostly basketball sneakers is what we specialize in. These days Yeezys are in and I sell those as well. I get any sneaker that releases, no matter if it’s super rare and hard to get or only available in another state I can get you it.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built along the way in this industry, and I am proud of the support I get from my family and friends for such a unique business. I’m proud to see my sneakers on an NBA court on a daily basis.
What sets FlyKicksDfw apart is, I’m a homegrown kid from Dallas who is sharing his passion with others Im not here just to make money I’m here to share a hobby with others and hopefully they can share with others as well. I travel as well to buy inventory from other states, I personally do everything my self there is no other, I am a one-man show and I think these features help me stand out.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans are to expand this business in a bigger way, we just have to see how the sneaker market is going. I did graduate from UNT with a Bachelors degree in entrepreneurship so I plan to continue on this path.
