Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Luckey.
Alexa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up exposed to the arts, which eventually led to my developing interested in dance and music and me performing in my first play in Pre-K. I fell in love with the freedom and joy I felt, so I continued to perform every chance I got. I studied recordings of Michael Jackson to perfect certain dance moves, the music and songwriting of Alicia Keys, and the films of Angela Bassett to gain a deeper understanding of acting. I’m extremely grateful to have been exposed to the arts at such an early age because watching my growth over the years has been just as great as performing in each individual performance.
Has it been a smooth road?
As far as music, my main area of focus has been working on developing my own individual sound that blends the sounds of my inspirations and includes my specific flair. My advice would be to not rush the process but to instead flow and create organically. With each experience and each moment of time, many personal transformations occur that help the process and the development of the art.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a storyteller through film/stage, song, and dance. Each piece of work I create stems from the goal of telling a story in order to better understand and communicate what it means to be human. As a result, I hope to help people break down their personal prejudices and judgments and see themselves in others.
There is a strong sense of pride in my work, given that it stems from the heart and has a purpose attached to it. I never do anything that I feel won’t positively contribute to society at large or an individual.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women can do anything. We face challenges, undoubtedly, but there is a wave coming where the female voice will be supported and uplifted like never previously seen.
