Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Buenrostro.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up with a hilarious mom. She used every chance to laugh. (I still think she was using humor to mask our difficult circumstances.) She loved to tease, and she and I would often riff. My mom left the country when I was 17, and I stayed. I needed an outlet, so I started writing. My joke book quickly turned into a diary.
When I needed to make a big decision, I would read all of my entries and would often find a chuckle. Once I turned 21, I was able to start doing open mics in bars around the DFW. I still amaze me how I loved doing something I was so bad at. A year in, I picked up the pace, performing five-seven times a week.
I decided that this is what I wanted to do. I sold the majority of my belongings, downsized, and hit the road. Often driving hundreds of miles to do 10-20 minutes of stage time. It’s been two years since I’ve started, and I’ve had the pleasure of performing in clubs and colleges around the nation.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been as smooth as the roads in the Knox/Henderson area. Comedy has been one of the hardest things I’ve done, but also the most rewarding.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Anitabuen story. Tell us more about the business.
I am in the entertainment business, specialized in chuckles. I am very proud of the fact that I am able to connect strangers through laughter.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a great part in this journey. A lot of the opportunities I have received were due to being in the right place at the right time.
