Today we’d like to introduce you to David (DRASTIC) Randall.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being raised in Texas by two parents that were born and raised in Florida, I was heavily immersed in both cultures. So when it came to the old term “Cowboys and Indians,” I morally ended up with the best of both worlds.
Both sides of my family were musically gifted, so I indirectly fell in love with instruments and expression. I taught myself how to play and write my own music, later becoming a recording artist. Music has and still allows me to create and travel around the country doing what I love next to some of the industry’s biggest stars.
By traveling, I started seeing how different the cultures in each state were so I learned as much as I could in every state. At this time, Brandi (B.Michavery) Jones invited me to partner with her about an idea she had for a documentary called The TATOO Campaign, standing for Talking About Things Others Oppose. It was perfect timing for the transition I was going through.
Hearing other people’s stories, I started getting into holistic healing and wanted to grow my own food. Fortunately, one of the best things about being raised in a Floridian culture is that knowing how to grow your own food almost seems mandatory down there (laughs). Everybody has a garden or some type of fruit tree in their yard.
I remember both sides of my grandparents always being able to live off the land if they ever needed to with fish, fruits, veggies, you name it. It’s not as popular to grow food in Texas, so I started my own for the people that didn’t know it could be a part of our everyday lifestyle.
At that time my daughter was old enough to understand that there was so much more in life to learn than just school and that gave me a sense of urgency to start faster. What I didn’t plan for was the amount of feedback and questions I got from people that wanted to grow their own and didn’t know how. That attention awarded me an interview with New York’s hit TV show “What’s In Your Basket?” speaking on the benefits of natural foods.
In the attempt to teach my daughter different life skills, it was time to show her the business side of my company ON DEMAND ENERGY DRINK. This was a business that I started while planning a college tour. It was initially meant to be something to assist me in my musical journey, but the company grew legs of its own years ago.
The drink eventually went on its own 40 city tour along with now author “Freeway Rick Ross.” ON DEMAND ENERGY DRINK is currently selling in stores in Germany, The United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I won’t say easy, but I’ve started many businesses in the past, and this has been the easiest. Maybe because entrepreneurship runs in my family, both parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles all run successful businesses, so I have somewhat of a blueprint.
It helps that someone like me isn’t expected to say they own an energy drink company, so it’s always an easier conversation starter to say that before I say that I’m a recording artist.
If anything, the hardest thing was keeping up with the DEMAND of it once it grew legs. I was expecting a slower start. It’s a constant mental muscle that I work out every day.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ON DEMAND Energy Drink – what should we know?
I like that question because I do a few things. Just to name a few outside of being a recording artist and owning ON DEMAND ENERGY DRINK, I’m an author having written four books for three separate companies. I also have a youth program named after my Grandmother “L.C. Bryant Youth Center.”
It all depends on what walk of life you know you me to say what I’m known for. I wear several hats. Artist, Herbalist, Author, Businessman, etc. The person that knows me for my garden has no clue what my music sounds like and the usually the person that drinks my drinks has no clue that we have given food, blankets, and toys to the less fortunate.
Ultimately, I like to say that I work in “M.E.” Motivation Exchange… If I can motivate you to feel and do better than what you were before we met, then in return I’m motivated to keep going. In other words, I sell you motivation for the price motivation — even exchange.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow, I think everybody deserves the credit. I’m a mirror reflection of who I come across. The stories, the tears, the smiles, the lessons. Specifically my parents for instilling the morals and ambition in me plus my twin sisters for being extra motivation, my grandmother for showing us that you don’t have to be a blood relative to be family.
The first guy that offered a helping hand when I was a young kid trying to break through the industry Torin Jessie. As far as teammates and cheerleaders go, I couldn’t even begin to name everybody. I have to start with my motivation at home being my wife and daughter… My brother Darren and my sister Keyke for financial and moral support.
Gin and Versy for countless hours of studio time and Brandi B.Michavery Jones for always thinking more of me than I think of myself. I could go on naming people from the highly intelligent homeless man that gave me a life lesson to the college professor that told me I taught him something. Everybody deserves the credit.
