Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Garza.
Courtney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating with my degree in Strategic Communications from the University of North Texas in December 2014, I plunged right into the Dallas journalism community by starting my career at D Magazine in January 2015 as a Media/Business Development Manager for their new online publication Dallas Innovates. Simultaneously, I created a vegan events-based company called The Harvest Hands, where my co-founder and I created 4-course fine dining vegan dinners around the metroplex to showcase how delicious vegan food can be.
I moved from D Magazine to help build the brand for Front Burner Restaurant’s new concept Legacy Hall in Plano. Through marketing and event planning, I was able to be on the ground floor of this exciting new concept that helps to promote local, innovative chefs while also creating a unique environment for guests to experience a wide variety of food, drinks, and music. From there, I left to team up with my current co-founder Christina Bluford to create Sprinkles Creative Social Media Agency.
Sprinkles Creative is a digital and creative agency run by women aiming to help change the world with our sweet skills. We specialize in creating custom social media content, photography, videography and more. Our passion is to help local business with a vegan and/or sustainable focus with their branding and social maintenance needs. We have been fortune to team up with some amazing companies that are aligned with our mission to raise awareness of living a more conscious lifestyle.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Navigating the path of jobs that I have both worked for others and created on my own has definitely been tough. I have never had a job that I took someone else’s place, so more often then not, I have been “the guinea pig,” having to write the rule book as I went along.
Though exciting at most, it was a journey that had me feeling blind in some of the toughest moments that I wasn’t able to reference previous experiences, since there were none. Building something new takes growing pains, so I would say those moments have been the most rough.
Starting and even ending partnerships is certainly in that category, as I have had to figure out the right people that I’m meant to work with by trial and error. Though necessary, there were certainly some times that I wish could have been easier.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sprinkles Creative story. Tell us more about the business.
As a social media agency, Sprinkles Creative specializing in the shareable content we create. From original, stylized photography and graphics, to strategic, targeted verbiage and videography, we work hard to ensure our clients are reaching their ideal customer.
So far, I have been proud to call our clients “ours.” Sometimes I have to take a look around and count my blessings, as the companies we get to work with are doing some incredible work to help our Dallas community be healthier, happier, more educated, more sustainable, and help animals live out their lives. I would say we’re different from others by the dedication we put into our work.
We often find ourselves saying that we would do this work even if we weren’t paid, in fact, we have before! As we are so passionate about the products, services, and events that our clients are creating, there’s no doubt that we want to share the news of it all with as many people as we can!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Call it luck, or what I call it: having a positive mind. This is what has gotten me pretty much everywhere I wanted to go.
Obviously, hard work and the right connections and experience has brought me this far, but I honestly believe that one can not achieve greatness unless they truly believe it’s there. This is the “luck” I like to play on always.
