Thanks for sharing your story with us Matilyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a mom of 2 young boys and always had a dream of owning a store. When my husband left me, I was left with nothing but a promise from God. He told me I was going to be taken care of and my dreams would be fulfilled one day. When I moved back to the Rockwall area, I was able to pursue that endeavor and it has been more than I ever planned! We set a goal of $100,000 in sales for our first year and quickly exceeded that amount many times over.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it has been a smooth and blessed journey. We have had great success but do have to deal with competing businesses trying to duplicate our model or style.
The Rustic Warehouse – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an interior decorator and specialize in home decorating as well as painting furniture and cabinets using Annie Sloan chalk paint. Our store is known for our farmhouse vintage style and our vendors do an incredible job stocking one of a kind pieces and unique home decor items. They are constantly changing their inventory and each day add new items to our store. I was very particular about the vendors I invited to be part of our store and wanted them to hold the same style and values that would represent The Rustic Warehouse.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment for the store was when we hit 1 Million dollars in Sales in the first year!
