Meet Robyn Carr of Vision Room

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Carr.

Robyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Vision Room is here today because my first business failed. I knew I wanted to start my own business, but I struggled to find who I was, what I was good at and who I wanted to be.

Shortly after graduating college I moved back to Dallas and decided to create a creative space where I could figure out what I could be good at so I remodeled my entire living space. In the midst of remodeling, the inspiration to build myself a vanity mirror came to mind and I began a custom vanity mirror business. After months of trial and error, my business failed.

Instead of sulking over my recent failure I realized I was good at creating. The name Vision Room came from my own experience of creating a space that brought joy, tranquility, and contentment. I wanted my business to help people create a living space that is everything they imagined it to be with one of a kind works of art

Vision Room became more than just a business to me because it was at this point I found my purpose. When I create, I feel that I am emulating and sharing the love and character of our Creator. I believe God is the source of all creativity and ingenuity and He has called me to create for His glory.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is scary, and it takes a lot of courage and risk to do what is outside of the norm. I’ve never painted before, and I had no clue what I was doing yet I still invested my time, energy and money into practicing my craft.

Within the first two months of starting Vision Room, I was selected to be an Artist at Raw Dallas. I was faced with the fear that no one would buy a ticket to support me at the show because I was new to the World of Art. In the midst of preparing for the show life happened, and a close friend of mine passed away.

At that point, I wanted to call it quits, and I questioned myself and my ability to succeed. I invested my personal income toward the development and practice of my artwork that did not make a profit right away, and I found myself running out of money.

I overcame my obstacles by determining that I was too far into this business to quit and the purpose that drives Vision Room was much bigger than what I’m feeling in moments of fear and doubt. If it weren’t for my first show, I would have given up too soon.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Vision Room is a home decor company that specializes in abstract fluid art. Vision Room is known for its bright colors and creative techniques.

I am most proud of my company building support, momentum and being given the opportunity to be an artist in a few of Dallas biggest art shows in such a short period of time. Since starting six months ago, I’ve been an artist at Raw Dallas, Chocolate & Art, Conception Art, and ArtOverdose.

Through the abstract component of my work, people are able to see from their point of view different images from different angles in one piece of artwork. My work is unique, and one of a kind and I do not make prints.

What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in Bronx, New York where I battled leukemia at a young age. During my fight with cancer, I spent a significant amount of time alone, surrendering to my imagination and creativity to keep me occupied.

After surviving cancer, my family and I moved to Texas where I became heavily involved in community service, school organizations and the church community. Personality wise I’m outgoing and friendly, and I tend to find something in common with everyone I meet.

Although I have a creative side, I am a business professional during the day and an artist at night.
