Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Easley.
Robyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Always a lover of fashion and always having a desire to personally shop/style others, I never thought I’d be where I am today– MODELING. While recovering in a very low state of mind, after burning 50% my hand in a grease fire (mid-December 2017), I was forced to swallow my pride and take the help of others. During the second month of my difficult recovery, I reported to my mother (Vikki Nance) I had seen a link for a model call on Facebook, and she asked me to get back to my colorful self. Hand still raw with pain and a required compression glove, I made way to the model call and landed the opportunity to walk in my very first fashion show, Plus Size Dallas Takeover by Nikki Rose Scott (April 2018). Thereafter, I was introduced to Presley Sheffield (NaturalState Images), photographer, who shot my first solo photo-shoot over a compilation of 8ball & MJG and Tank. Thereafter, we talked about my sultry, yet edgy style, and he inspired me coining my name as my brand — ROBYN the Model.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been bumpy! With faith, drive, zeal, humility, and integrity, the process is possible. To every woman, know that this significant life change will require self-discipline, sacrifice, tenacity, an open mind, and reminders (i.e., sponsor, advisor, sticky note quotes, spiritual focus), and hard work! My recommendations would be to get a true scope of how your life will is affected, and never stop strategizing. Research! Save for a rainy day. Give yourself credit for what you have done. Never take constructive criticism/feedback personally. It’s actually a gift!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
The momentum of this journey has been baffling because, in October 2017, I finished graduate school with a Masters of Organizational Leadership. I also work full-time as a Human Resources professional. Trying to find the puzzle piece that fits into modeling was at one point difficult, but I’ve now acknowledged that I am embodying servant leadership by being a steward to those who need empowering, inspiration, consistent positive reinforcement, and downright LOVE. I’m modeling the way! To date, I’ve done 10 runway fashion shows, inclusive of an internationally noted brand, SMGlobal Catwalk – Dallas Revolution (Samina Mughal). Along with that, I’ve become a brand ambassador for RJB Apparel, been featured as a model on the PGCB by Heavenly online clothing website, aired on Str8Talk AfterParty Internet Radio, various photo shoots, and was just casted for the YouTube Series, “Lay Down My Burden” by Nikohl Ray. I thank God for giving me perspective, after such a challenging injury! Each opportunity to grow relationships, regardless of the time invested, has been a paradigm to my maturation. I’m so excited for what’s next!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mother inspires me most, as her determination to be the best female model and mother, never wavered. She always expected me to exceed expectations, never accepting me, just meeting them. She gave me my sweet, graceful, yet independent traits, while teaching me that love/help from others is necessary.
My 3rd-grade teacher, Ms. Andrea Morris, was an inspiration. She challenged me to use my gifts, to lead followership, yielding being elected class president.
A host of my loved ones inspire me, as well.
All women who are taking forward steps, to ensure they’re fulfilling a calling to society, are inspiring.
