Today we’d like to introduce you to Gwendolyn Harris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gwendolyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a manager, but I have always been great at planning and organizing. When I was laid off in 2011, my BFF said I should do event planning. I had no idea where to start. Fast forward to 2013, I get engaged. I planned my own wedding but hired a DOC. When my college friend got engaged, she asked who was the lady who planned my wedding. I explained, I planned it myself. She looked at me and said oh will you plan mine and how much do you charge. That day, Holiday Events was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been easy. Explaining the difference between a planner, coordinator, and decorator has been the hardest thing.
They are all different but at the same time, one and the same. Learning the difference myself and educating people. I am a true planner, but I have helped DIY brides make decor, loaded light, and DJ equipment. Picked up cakes and washed dishes. I do whatever I need to ensure my bride has a perfect day.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a planner but I have fabulous vendors I work with who I trust… I plan your event from top to bottom. I use my vendors or yours. I specialize in weddings but I can plan anything. I’m most proud of my growth. I’ve done so much in a short time. I’m truly blessed. What sets me apart is my passion, I care about your event just as much as you do. We become family. I don’t have a tangible item to show my work. Your event is my work, your smile. your satisfaction is what drives me to keep learning, growing and challenging myself. I love face paced, stressful environments.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Event planning is growing like a wildfire. It can be as big or small as you want it. Sky is the limit.
